Explore the past

Humanity has travelled the world and all the seas. The sky is not the limit for us; we even reached the moon and beyond. But we were never able to explore the past (before). Only Retronaut, our LoFi Nostalgia Machine, may take you there. Fasten your seatbelts. The expedition through history starts now.

Retronaut Key Features

LoFi Nostalgia Machine

Retronaut is a multi-voice vibrato and chorus with LoFi effects. It is inspired by old analogue gear such as bucket brigade chips, tape cassettes, vinyl records and voltage-controlled filters.

Vibrato to Chorus

The multi-voice engine allows you to mix from a single vibrato voice up to 4, resulting in a rich chorus. The mix is continuously variable, so you can find sweet spots between the voices.

Degrade

Retronaut adds that nostalgic magic of the past, with multiple ways to age and degrade your music. Including warm dirt & grit, wow & flutter, dusty crinkles & crackles and more.

Diverge

Offset the voices in various ways to create organic and evolving movements. Spread the voices over the stereo field, progressively delay them, warp their phase and even offset the LFO rate for each independently.

More Than Modulation

The heart of Retronaut is its modulation. However, you can dial back the "Vibe" and use its other effects. The tape saturation sounds so good it could have been a plugin on its own. Get that warm, woolly and compressed tape sound, then shape it with the VA filters and mix to perfection.

Crossfeed Into the Aether

The Feed control sends the signal from each voice back into each other to create a complex feedback network. Combine this with Lag to delay each voice and the filters for dampening to get a lush modulated reverb that sounds breathtakingly beautiful.

Virtual Analog Filters

The plugin has high-pass and low-pass resonant filters with switchable 2 or 4 poles to shape the tone of the effect. The filters can also be modulated with the LFO to add extra motion and flow to your sounds.

Hassle-free software protection

No iLok, no dongle, or internet access is required for activation. Our software uses license files to activate your software. You can freely use the purchased software on all your computers as long as you are the user.

Realistic 3D yet flexible GUI

The photorealistic graphic user interface of the plugin gives you the feeling you are touching the real hardware. But it easily adapts to your needs. You can always drag the arrow in the bottom right corner to change its size - make it smaller to save valuable screen space, or enlarge it to make it easier to use.

FREE 15-Day unlimited trial

All the descriptions are nothing compared to putting your hands on the plugin. No saving limits. No noises. No boundaries. Engage the plugin in your project for real and fully exploit its powers for two weeks.

64-bit audio quality at ANY sampling rate

The plugin provides the maximum audio quality you can get. It uses internal 64-bit audio processing and can handle any sampling rate. 192 kHz or even higher.

Smart bypass

The intelligent way our plugins manage bypassing ensures that you don't get any clicks or harmful noises when automating the parameter. It also compensates for latency, ensuring that the bypass states are perfectly in sync with each other.

Intelligent sleep on silence

This plugin intelligently detects whether it makes sense to perform processing at all. If not, it temporarily turns on sleep mode. In such a state, it requires virtually no CPU at all to save the computing sources for other processes.

Free-for-life updates

Our plugins never become obsolete. We keep track of the current operating systems and DAWs. You may always update to the most recent version for free, without paying a cent, a penny, or whatever currency you prefer.

Retronaut is possibly the best tape warp / lofi effects plugin I’ve ever used. Great for instrument buses when you want to create an interesting atmosphere & texture around the music.”

I hate to overdo the superlatives, but it has to be said that within a minute of trying out the amazing features of the Retronaut plugin, I am astounded. I particularly love the lo-fi Degrade section, which can add a huge amount of expression to any sound you use. Retronaut’s versatility will work across all manner of instruments, from guitars to drums etc. I even tried some of the effects on a piano piece, and the results were extraordinary.

Retronaut is a time and vibe machine. It's great for dialing in a little extra funk, grit, lo-fi, attitude or to save a sound from sounding too digital

Retronaut is not just another lo-fi maker. It’s so much more useful than anything else in its category. Because it’s not just a retro sound plug-in; it’s a retro enhancer.

It sounds absolutely amazing and it can create an instant retro vibe. It's literally one of the best retro plugins I have! Light on the CPU but doesn't compromise sound quality

I enjoy the presets a lot; I really like the Dust and Dirt sensibility to input on the Degrade section; I can add a lot of noise/distortion and control it later with the dry/wet knobs. The visuals are very nice; it puts you in a vintage mood, hahaha!

Retronaut is the ultimate solution for anyone seeking to infuse their sound with a rich, robust, and immersive quality. In a world where many modern synth plugins tend to lack warmth and depth, Retronaut emerges as the remedy, providing you with a hardware-quality sonic experience that adds a new dimension to your music. Its versatility knows no bounds, making it an excellent choice for enhancing acoustic sounds, guitars, basses, and even vocals. It effortlessly injects that sought-after lo-fi retro vibe back into my productions, instantly transforming my tracks.

Retronaut is a good spice to add to any mix or audio file, giving anything from a subtle touch of old-school warmth and wobble to some full-on unrecognisable creative destruction.

Initially, I intended to use Retronaut only on my guitar, but I couldn't resist using it on other instruments and the result is amazing. I found myself experimenting with unique combinations of the plugin and various instruments. This allowed me to achieve new sounds that I wouldn't have been able to achieve without the use of Retronaut.

I've been looking for a plugin like Retronaut. It's perfect for creating that vintage vibe for a single instrument or just making the whole mix instantly lo-fi-flavoured. Also, as someone not experienced in making lo-fi beats, the presets, each with its unique sonic signature, help a lot.

I’ve recently been looking for something to convincingly make all those great distressed-sounding effects that I keep hearing on records. You know the stuff – random flutters, deep LFO pitch wobbles, and tonal degradation. I’ve been considering various expensive boutique pedals… But having just downloaded Retronaut, it absolutely delivers all that stuff – and more – in one place. It’s a wonderful tool with fantastic presets, and it’s quick and easy to use.

Once again, JMG provides a unique processor with an extreme range of unique effects. If you work in any genre that can use unusual modulation FX, you should give it a try (free as always to try for two weeks and fairly priced). A load of fun!
